Description
Abandoned Euclid Dump Truck by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Day 218 of the 365 Challenge (Journal 2022).
This traditionally green Euclid Dump Truck, abandoned in an empty lot in southeastern Ohio, appears to be one that was manufactured by the White Motor Company when it was run by brothers Walter and Windsor between 1968-1978.
George A. Armington and his 5 sons founded and ran the Armington Electric Hoist Company in 1907. Euclid Crane & Hoist Company was the new name for the company after he moved it to Euclid, Ohio (USA). By 1924 George decided to expand into construction equipment and the company became the Euclid Road Machinery Company.
The company manufactured the first ever off-highway dump truck in 1934. In the early 1950s George Armington sold Euclid Inc. to General Motors. Six years later Attorney General William P. Rogers hit GM with an anti-trust suit and they were forced to sell Euclid to White Motor Corporation, at that time run by Walter and Windsor White.
The company changed hands many times later and the last trucks were manufactured with that name in 2004. After that year the name was dropped and the present owner, Hitachi Construction Machinery Co. Ltd. changed the traditional green color to the Hitachi orange.
Many older Euclid off road construction equipment and trucks can still be seen being used in mining operations in the US.

I like the similarity of the colors and the juxtaposition of the natural and humanmade.

Nice capture, that truck is blending in with the environment!
Kathy K McClellan replied:
Thanks Gaby. I suppose if it stays there long enough it will rust and decompose and literally become part of the environment!
