Abstract Monochrome Pencil Shavings by Kathy K. McClellan is an photograph digitally altered for Week 11 of the 52 week Art Challenge (Theme: The World Inside). This is a square format image.
The image viewed is the third in a series of photographs taken of pencil shavings from sharpening several pencils with a small plastic pencil sharpener. This photograph of a pile of shavings from the sharpened pencils was first altered in the camera when it was taken with an effect filter. More alterations took place in photo software.
Black and white along with different shades of gray and no other colors makes this a monochrome image.
Monochrome pencil shavings create a textured, abstract pattern with intricate details and sharp edges. The varying shades of gray highlight the delicate layers and curves of the shavings.
