Description
Architectural Detail On Old Church by Kathy K. McClellan
This image is a capture of the roof peak on the old church at Freeport, Ohio. The town of Freeport was laid out in 1810 and has had a working post office since 1814. In 2010 the population was less than 400.
The church is located on US Highway 22 but the town is located just off the highway, out of view of the church property. The church is approximately 200 years old.
Not only has the paint worn off of the wood it appears that at least one piece is missing.
I can image that the carpenter that designed and made the architectural pieces for this church was a true craftsman who took pride in his work and probably put his heart and soul into this particular piece knowing that it was for a House Of Worship. I wonder if it was one person who made all the wood details for this church or if it was several carpenters, each concentrating on a different location on the building.
I'm sure someone, somewhere knows the answer to my inquiring thoughts as well as other historical information on this church. I would love to meet and talk with them someday and would hope that the church is still standing at that time.
