Description
Banana plants produce a large pod that opens up as it matures. A very sticky sap, with an unpleasant odor, drips from the stamens as the bananas mature. Those stamens will drop off just as the outer pod leaves do and tiny bananas will be exposed to the sun to mature.
This photograph was taken as the outer leaves of the pod have curled back away from the stamens and maturing baby bananas.
These banana shrubs were planted next to our swimming pool. If you look closely at the large drop of sap you will see a reflection of that pool.

Never thought of banana trees having blossoms! That raindrop, or some sort of ooze from the plant? Cool photo with the blurred b/g, nice work Kathy!~DUG
Kathy K McClellan replied:
DUG, that ooze is sap. I hope you noticed the reflection of the swimming pool water in that drop! Thanks for visiting and for your kind comment.
