Description
Bias by Kathy K. McClellan is an image created for Day 67 of the Journal 2022 Challenge.
My journal entries for March make up a series titled "From Letters to Words" using the letters that were created for the February entries. As March is Women's History Month (since 1987), several of my posts this month will be celebrating women in history.
This image and post are being created and uploaded on International Women's Day. This celebration of women and their achievements has been held since 1911.
The IWD was honored for the first time in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland on March 19th. In 1913 the date was moved to March 8th and has been recognized as the official date ever since.
In 1975 the IWD was celebrated for the first time by the United Nations.
The official colors of purple (justice and dignity), green (hope) and white (purity) originated from the 1908 Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) in the UK.
The International Women's Day website serves as a vehicle for charitable giving. In 2020 a hefty six figure sum was fund raised with 100% of donations going to charity.
Over the years different campaigns have used a variety of themes. The theme for 2022 (when this post is being created) is Break The Bias.
