Description
Brick Beyond The Scrollwork by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Day 285 of the 365 Challenge (Journal 2022).
The railing on the balcony of a Boutique Hotel in Nashville, Georgia (USA) may be in the foreground in this image but the focus is on the brick building in the image's background.
Not only is the metal railing with scrollwork blurred but the distance between that railing and the brick building is deceptive. There is actually a state highway between the brick building and the hotel.
Both buildings were built in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. As you can see the window on the brick building has been broken and the opening covered with plywood. The wood, as well as the original brickwork, has been painted a neutral tan color.
Note the arched brickwork above the window opening and the layered, stepped up brickwork close to the roof line. These architectural features give a clue to the original era of the building.
When I look at this photograph I wonder how often I may miss what's going on around me at the present (the beauty of the metal scrollwork on the railing) because I am focusing on the past (the old brick building with a broken window).
