Description
Button Among The Dots by Kathy K. McClellan
My favorite chair is armless.
It is called a Slipper Chair.
When no one sits upon it
The sides will look quite bare.
This image is a close up photograph of the back of an upholstered slipper chair. Slipper chairs have been in use since the early 18th century. Originally they were used in women's bedrooms and used when putting on shoes, which were first called slippers. When dresses were made with wide hoops an armless chair was necessary as not to impede the hoop.
Slipper chairs first came out of the bedroom and into the living room in the 1950s. Small, armless chairs are often used in mid century modern and contemporary designs.
