Description
Cadiz Presbyterian Bell Tower by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Day 245 of the 365 Challenge (Journal 2022).
This Presbyterian Church is one block from the Harrison County Courthouse in Cadiz, Ohio (USA). I noticed the church bell tower in the background of some of the photographs that I was taking of the courthouse. Intrigued with a bell tower taller than a steeple I walked the block to get a closer look.
There are at least two of these steeples on the front corners of the church building with the bell tower rising in the center of the building. Fancy, white painted wood railing runs up from each end steeple to the bottom of the bell tower.
The church itself is made of brick but the steeples appear to be made of copper. White painted wood trim surrounds the glass-less, arched windows of the tower, with a cross carved into the top of the wood frames where the arch peaks. Capstones and brick trim complete the tower windows architecture.
Detailed brickwork steps up above the windows with arched brick details above the stepped up work. Finally a bracketed type brickwork tops the tower looking like a row of short chimneys. Each corner of the bell tower is topped with a dark metal, squared finial with peaked, gabled roofs on those finials.
Although the entire church is a study in architectural details, it was this detail filled bell tower rising above the steeples that fascinated me.
