Description
Cadiz Purple House by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Day 256 of the 365 Challenge (Journal 2022).
Do not adjust your monitor if you think this house has a lavender tint to the bricks. It does. The trim, capstones and stone window sills are painted a light maroon.
I call this structure the Purple House in Cadiz, Ohio (USA). How appropriate that there are purple and white Rose Of Sharon shrubs blooming in the landscape around the house.
The style of this house is Italianate Architecture. The most recognizable identifying feature is the deep, prominent eaves with very substantial decorative brackets. First story porches and tall, narrow windows are two more features of the Italianate style. Cast iron was often used in and around these structures and this property has an iron fence.
This style of architecture was very popular in the United States from the 1840s to the 1880s.
