Description
Cold Water Stagecoach Stop by Kathy K. McClellan is a photograph processed for Day 134 of the 365 Challenge (Journal 2022).
Jackson's Military Road was a newly built road in 1820 that took travelers from Nashville to New Orleans. The road was 483 miles long and 200 miles shorter than the previously used Natchez Trace route. Stagecoaches could travel this new route in 17 days.
Cabins and stands were built along the new road to accommodate those taking the stagecoaches.
The building in this photograph is of the single-pen, hewn-log cabin located in Tuscumbia, Alabama (USA) on what was once Jackson's Military Road. It originally stood on the opposite side of the road and was a stagecoach stop.
