Description
Georgia Peach Bowl by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Day 2 of the 3 day challenge (Theme: Fruit In A Bowl).
In this photograph you see a stainless steel bowl full of peaches that were grown in the state of Georgia (USA). Peaches are the state's official fruit. Georgia has been one of the top four peach producing states in the United States according to the US Department of Agriculture.
Although originating in China, peaches are grown for commercial sale in the United States in Georgia, California, South Carolina and New Jersey. The small tree is technically a member of the rose family.
Peaches grown in Georgia are used in some of the nation's top restaurants and the world's largest peach cobbler is made each year at the Georgia Peach Festival in Fort Valley, GA.
Despite the large number of peaches grown in the state there are no processing plants in Georgia as most of the fruit is sold fresh.
The title of this image is a take-off of the ninth-oldest bowl game in college football history that is played in Atlanta, Georgia. At the time of posting this image, the University of Georgia will be one of the teams playing in this season's Peach Bowl.
