Description
Horsepower is a photograph of a highway caution sign, one of several posted along US Route 22 between Smyrna and Winterset, Ohio.
The highway winds and climbs in, around, up and down the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains through Guernsey and Harrison Counties.
The natural beauty of the landscape is dotted with farm fields and buildings. Half a century ago the only destruction of that beauty was due to strip mining for coal. Today the beauty is being interrupted with buildings and equipment involved in the fracking industry.
Observing these signs along the highway was encouraging to my spirit, knowing that there are still communities in our country that respect the natural beauty and resources of our nation.
