Description
This photograph was taken downstream from the dam at Jefferson Lake State Park in Jefferson County, Richmond, Ohio.
Land acquisition began in 1928 (eventually over 900 acres). The damn for the lake was built in 1937. The 17 acre lake was filled in 1946.
The lake and facilities were constructed by the National Park Service in co-operation with old Ohio Division of Conservation, a project of CCC during the Great Depression.
The park consists and is surrounded by hills and valleys of mostly Oak and Hickory trees. Among the White Oak and Shagbark Hickories grow Beech, Ashes, Walnuts, Elm, Tulip Trees and Maples. Many wildflowers grow under the canopy of the trees.
The park is open year round and offers, camping, swimming, fishing, horseback riding trails, hiking and biking trails, picnic shelters and natural beauty!
