Description
Jourdan River Interstate Bridge by Kathy K. McClellan is an image created for day 118 of the 2022 Journal Challenge.
This photograph was taken in August of 2004 from a fishing boat on the Jourdan River in Hancock County, Mississippi (USA).
The bridge that you see in this photograph carries vehicular traffic on US Interstate 10 as it crosses over the Jourdan River. This six lane bridge is a replacement for the original four lane I-10 Highway bridge.
This new bridge has nine main spans made with continuous steel. The span design is a stringer/multi-beam or girder design. The bridge deck is concrete cast-in-place. Construction took two years from 2002-2004 to build this new bridge.
Although the actual bridge was complete when this photograph was taken and all six lanes were open to traffic, there was still work being done to grade the land under the bridge and place large rocks on the river bank to prevent erosion.
