Lamp Base in Black And White by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Week 22 of the 52 week Art Challenge (Theme: The World Inside). This is a square format image.
A white geometric structure is set against a dark background, featuring a cylindrical base with an inclined rectangular column. The minimalist design highlights clean lines and smooth surfaces.
That geometric structure is a desk lamp anchored by a heavy metal base made up of no less than three pieces. A large round disc is topped by a smaller diameter but taller round metal base for the angled arm of the desk.
The black and white of this image is a study in contrasts. Using the flash in a dark room accented the contrast between the lamp base and the dark wall behind the desk. Shadows in a couple of places were also caused by that flash.
Taking out all of the lamp base's color created a modern and industrial look.
