Description
Logs Shakes And Siding by Kathy K. McClellan is an image created for Day 138 of the 365 Challenge (Journal 2022). This is a vertical image.
This photograph shows where two sides meet on the cabin that is the Cold Water Stagecoach Stop in Tuscumbia, Alabama (USA). The cabin was built in the mid 1800s. At that time wood was plentiful and was commonly used for many types of building materials.
It was not unusual for cabins that were made of logs to eventually have some, if not all sides of the building clad in wood siding.
Split wood shingles called shakes were the most common roofing material.
This view of the stagecoach stop shows the three types of wood building materials that were common during that time period being used on one cabin all at the same time.
Wood shakes cover the roof, the front and back of the cabin is made of logs while the two sides are covered in wood siding.
