Description
Lost Bay Bridge by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Day 172 of the 365 Challenge (Journal 2022).
The bridge in this photograph was the former bridge between Bay St. Louis, Mississippi and Pass Christian, Mississippi (USA). It was the second bridge built between the two cities, replacing a wooden bridge built in 1928.
This bridge was a Bascule bridge (Draw bridge) with girder approaches and was 1.9 miles long. The draw in the middle allowed sailboats and tall working boats to enter the Bay and on to the Jourdan River which feeds into the Bay.
The bridge was built in 1953 and carried four lanes of traffic for US Highway 90 over the Bay of Saint Louis. It was completely destroyed in Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Interesting information, Kathy. Too bad it was destroyed!
Kathy K McClellan replied:
Thanks Mary. Yes, everyone who worked in or needed something from the next county had to go around on land which was a minimum of 30 miles round trip. My husband did that for two years for work.
