Description
Mardi Gras is the traditional Carnival celebration in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is usually meant to describe the entire season but can also be interpreted as Mardi Gras Day (Fat Tuesday) which is the end of the Carnival season.
Mardi Gras masks are normally worn by members of a krewe (an organization that puts on parades and/or balls for Carnival). Non-members frequently wear masks at parties and on Fat Tuesday.
The horizontal waves on this orb resemble a facial mask, similar in shape to many worn during Carnival season.
The official colors of Mardi Gras are purple, green and gold. The traditional meaning for each color is justice (purple), faith (green) and power (gold).
The three Mardi Gras colors, purple, green and gold can be seen stretching horizontally across the orb in the perceived mask area.
This image represents a simple, contemporary representation of the traditional Mardi Gras mask.
