Description
Military Tank Side View by Kathy K. McClellan is an image for Day 128 of the Journal 2022 Challenge.
This is the side view of the American Military tank that is located in Spring Park, Tuscumbia, Alabama (USA). According to the Afv Register (Armoured fighting vehicle) it is an M60A3 tank.
The M60 tank is an American second-generation Main Battle Tank (MBT) with several versions and variants. M60 BMTs were in service from 1959 to the present. Over 15,000 M60s were built by Chrysler and although hull production ended in 1983, 5,400 older models were converted to the M60A3 variant ending in 1990. The M60A3 variants were designed and built in the late 1970s.
Specialized tanks were built to carry and launch bridges, clear minefields, as armored recovery vehicles, adding backhoes and cranes. Additionally kits are available to add mine rakes, mine plows and bulldozers to name a few.
After Desert Storm the US retired the M60s from front line combat and the last tanks were retired from the National Guard in 1997. However, many other countries are still utilizing M60 tanks today in combat. Egypt, Turkey and Saudi Arabia are the largest foreign operators in recent history.
