Nail Polish - Liquid Color by Kathy K. McClellan is a photograph taken for Day Four of the Seven Day Challenge with a specific theme: Liquid.
Nail Polish has an interesting history dating back over 5,000 years ago. Soldiers were the first to use paint on their nails to scare their enemies. From there the practice spread to China's wealthy class.
In the late 19th Century Nail Art spread into Europe and then into the United States. From simple nude covering on the nail plate to intricate designs, nail polish has evolved to an art form.
Nails are polished at the end of a manicure (fingernails) or pedicure (toenails) and normally includes a base coat (clear or milky layer) that can moisturize the nail, fill in ridges or make it possible to peel off the final layer of color without removers.
Top coats help protect the polish color, are clear and may come as "quick dry" which can also help the underlying colored polish dry quicker.
Gel polish is a type of polymer that does not dry. Instead it is cured under ultraviolet LED lights. Gel polish is stronger and lasts longer but is difficult to remove.
When you research nail polish, it's history and modern nail art you will very quickly discover that there's much more than meets the eye!
