Description
Our Lady Of The Gulf by Kathy K. McClellan is an image created for Day 93 of the Journal 2022 Challenge.
Our Lady Of The Gulf is a Catholic Church in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi (USA). The church was established in 1847. The present church building was built in 1908 after the original building was destroyed by fire.
This building is Romanesque Revival architecture with Ionic column portico. The building is a 2-story, 3x6-bay brick church with 2 towers connected by a balustrade. It also includes individual and groups of round-arched windows.
Hurricane Katrina damaged the church and destroyed several other buildings on the property. Volunteers, locals and other churches helped to rebuild and repair the church, it's schools and other buildings on church property. By the fifth anniversary of Katrina most of the church buildings were repaired or rebuilt.
The church is a landmark in Bay St. Louis and it's clock tower stands tall over the church property.
