Description
Before Hurricane Katrina, we had 13 trees on our property (a city lot). Only three survived and all three were palm trees. When we rebuilt the only trees we planted were palms. We planted three Washingtonias, two Queen Palms and we transplanted one Queen Palm that had survived Katrina. The second winter two of the three Queen Palms died. They are my favorites. Within another two winters we had lost all our Queen Palms, including the one that had survived Katrina. We lost all of them from extended freezing weather....on the Mississippi Gulf Coast!
We have replanted but this time with all Washingtonia Palms. I am so glad I took photographs of our Queen Palms. I miss them terribly. They are lacey and sway in the breeze like no other palm. They gave me the illusion of living in a true tropical environment. But reality always sets in eventually, doesn't it!
