Description
Piano by Kathy K. McClellan is an image created for Day 88 of the Journal 2022 Challenge.
My journal entries for March make up a series titled "From Letters to Words" using the letters that were created for the February entries.
March 29th is the 88th Day of the year and is World Piano Day. The date was chosen to match the number of keys on a piano.
World Piano Day was initiated by German pianist and composer Nils Frahm in 2015. The idea was to celebrate the piano and to promote projects that further music development and to celebrate the joy of playing a centuries-old instrument.
A few fun facts:
(1) The first modern piano was in 1700.
(2) Between 1700 and 1830 the piano was called a Pianoforte.
(3) Steinway, the most popular piano company, started in 1887.
(4) Yamaha, the first Japanese maker of pianos, also started in 1887.
(5) The world's largest piano is 11 feet long and weighs more than a ton.
(6) The strings of one grand piano are so strong that they can lift up 30 tons.
Every year pianist create compositions specifically for Piano Day. You can learn more about World Piano Day and the compositions and projects by checking out the website piano day dot org.
