Description
Richmond Methodist Church Collage by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Day 254 of the 365 Challenge (Journal 2022).
This collage is made up of photographs of the United Methodist Church in Richmond, Ohio (USA). The photographs were taken to show the architectural features of this historic building.
The United Methodist Church in Richmond, Ohio (USA) is part of the Ohio Valley District in the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church Organization.
The original section of this church was built in 1861 but the church itself was established much earlier as the Methodist Episcopal Church. The Methodist Episcopal cemetery which is located across the street behind the church, was established in 1831.
Two additions have been added over the years to the original building and the grounds in front of the church are graced with several tall and very old maple trees.
One image shows the front portion of the original building and the latest addition. Although the brick does not match exactly there are other architectural features that were included in the newer section to match features on the older section.
The brickwork on the corners of both buildings are raised up and arches are formed in the brickwork along the roof line of both sections.
Just as the stained glass windows on the original building were arched with circular brickwork around the tops of the windows, the upper windows on the new addition match the shape of the original windows with the same brickwork framing the arched portion.
The first floor windows and doors are capped with stone mimicking the first floor windows and doors on the older building.
Several other photographs highlight the signs on the church, one shows the stone over the second story stained glass window in the center of the building that is carved with the words: Methodist Episcopal Church 1861. Another shows the transom window over the front doors and the sign to the side designating the church as a historic structure.
The steeple includes a bell tower and topped with a simple cross.
