Description
Richmond Presbyterian Architectural Features by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Day 251 of the 365 Challenge (Journal 2022).
Although the present United Presbyterian Church building in Richmond, Ohio (USA) was built in 1951, there are a few classic church architectural features that were included in the modern building. This steeple and rose window are two of the features that lend a classical air to the brick building.
The steeple is a simple one, consisting of two rectangular cubes stacked and clad in siding. Those cubes are topped with a steeply pitched, shingled roof. There is a cross in a circle at the very top of the steeple.
The rose window is the typical round shape divided into six sections by wood trim. Capstones were placed at the top, bottom and on each side of the circular window. Bricks laid in a circle surround the window frame, between the capstones.
Notice the clouds in the sky being reflected in the window.
Lightning rods are a necessary modern feature of the roof line to prevent the roof from catching fire due to a lightning strike.
