Description
Ruth's Roots Children's Library by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Day 341 of the 365 Challenge (Journal 2022).
This photograph was taken in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi (USA) at Ruth's Roots, a community garden.
The repurposed newspaper stands shown in this image contain books which are left by residents and visitors alike. Children can borrow reading material from the lending library or they can bring books that they have already read and leave them for others to enjoy.
These stands are the perfect height for children. They sit next to the adult library cabinet whose doors are closed in this image..
The garden was named after the late Ruth Thompson and is located at the former location of Ruth's Cakery. The land was donated by Jim Thompson.
There is a chicken coop, butterfly house, rabbit enclosure, koi pond, stone chess board, blessing box and these adult and children's lending libraries plus several other attractions.
Garden vegetables and herbs are planted in raised beds. Eggs are donated to a local non-profit cafe.
The garden is open 24/7 and has been visited by people from all over the United States as well as several different countries.
