Description
Sailing On A Sea Of Stones by Kathy K. McClellan
Do you see the stone sailboat? This photograph is the wall of a restroom at Deibert Park in Florence, Alabama. The outside walls are made of stacked stone.
As I approached the building I noticed that the stones had been placed randomly because none of the stones were exactly alike. My eye was drawn to a triangular stone atop a slim rectangular stone. I immediately saw a sailboat shape.
There are other triangular stones placed on several walls of this building but this was the only one that was set directly on top of a slim rectangular one and the only one that truly looked like a sailboat. I wondered if the stone mason was a craftsman who was also a sailor.
Interestingly enough, later that same day as I walked the paths of the park I saw a sailor and his grandson navigating one of the ponds with a radio controlled sailboat. Maybe it's time to go sailing!

I love rock walls, Kathy. I love them in my yard, in my house and everywhere. This one is very striking.
