Description
Salty Seaside Ceiling by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Day 331 of the 365 Challenge (Journal 2022).
This photograph was taken in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi (USA) at a beachfront pavilion. Standing in the open air shelter, looking up, I observed the rust on the metal roof that was caused by the salty air.
Seaside buildings require constant maintenance and sometimes material replacement as the salty air will damage metal by rusting it away and wood by providing the ingredients for mold and rot.
Paint or other coatings must be applied on a regular schedule if rust, mold and rot are to be avoided. Otherwise these materials will need to be replaced when the damage prevents those items from being structurally sound.
