A snow bird is defined as (1) a Junco or Snow Bunting or any bird that is common in snowy regions, (2) a person who moves from a cold location to in a warm location during the cold months.
Previously living on the Gulf Coast I loved feeding the seagulls that would gather on pier posts in the Bay at the end of our street. I have seen them around water here in Northwestern Alabama but last year was the first time I had ever seen seagulls in and around snow!
I chose this photograph to process this morning because it is another day below freezing, literally! Oh how I long to be a snow bird of the second definition. I can close my eyes and imagine a warm, sunny beach with waves lapping at my feed and seagulls gathering up the morsels of food that I have thrown out for them.
That's exactly what I did last year when I saw these birds in our parking lot. I threw fruit, nuts and grains out in the snow for these hungry seagulls turned snow birds. Maybe next winter...
