Description
Snow Sculptured Sycamore by Kathy K. McClellan is an image created for Day Two of the "Journal Challenge 2022", a 365 day Personal Art Challenge.
The photograph processed for today's image was taken in northwestern Alabama (USA) in January 2021. As I look out the back window of our apartment I can see that same Sycamore tree.
Snow is in the forecast for this evening and as I look at that tree I imagine that it will be looking just like today's image in a couple of hours.
Snow piling up on the horizontal branches accentuates the sculptured shape of the tree.
Sycamore trees are some of the world's oldest trees and even without a covering of snow the tree's branches appear very sculptural.
The gray sky and dark branches of other deciduous trees give a neutral background for the large Sycamore. Dried grasses in the foreground and a few small pine saplings lend a little color to an otherwise drab winter landscape.
Platanus occidentalis is the botanical name of the American Sycamore tree but is also known as American Planetree, Western Plane, Occidental Plane, Buttonwood, and Water Beech.

Lovely image. Looks like it could be a black and white image except for the golden fringe of grass at the bottom.

I love the way you are anticipating the day ahead!
Kathy K McClellan replied:
Thanks Roberta....as I write this it is dark out but I can see that everything is covered in snow and it's still coming down!
