Snowy Roof Warm Up by Kathy K. McClellan is an image created for Day Four of the Journal 2022 Challenge, a 365 day Personal Art Challenge.
Snow covers the roof of our apartment building, blurring the individual shingles into straight horizontal lines. The breaks in those lines are caused by the snow slowly melting.
After two days of freezing weather the sun is finally shining and quickly raising the air temperature. Between the radiant heat from the sun and the rising air temperatures the snow has no choice but to melt and end up in the gutters, downspouts and eventually the yard around the building.
Thinking that a photograph of a snowy roof was visually boring, I decided to create an abstract image from the photograph that represented the warm sun shining over the snow covered roof.
