Description
Spring Park Stone Heart by Kathy K. McClellan is an image created for Day 122 of the Journal 2022 Challenge. This is a square image.
Spring Park in Tuscumbia, Alabama (USA) was built around Big Springs, a cold water spring that provided water for the town founded on it's banks. The park was established in 1919.
One of the features of the park is a two story open shelter. The walls of the first story, as well as it's two story fireplace, are made of stone.
We recently spent an afternoon touring the park. As I rounded the corner of the first floor of the shelter, I noticed this heart shaped stone that had been placed at eye level in the corner wall.
There were local children who were having a picnic with their family in the shelter and one little girl came and asked me what I was doing as I was photographing the stone. I showed her the heart shape stone and she went running and squealing with excitement to tell her sisters and parents about the heart.
That stone may have literally been a "heart of stone", but that day it was certainly softening human hearts with the joy of discovery.
