Three Bridges in Louisville by Kathy K. McClellan is an image created for Day 111 of the Journal 2022 Challenge. Today I was hoping to add more images to my Bridge Collection and found this photograph in my travel archives.
This image contains a view of three different bridges crossing the Ohio River in Louisville, Kentucky.
The pedestrian and bicycle bridge in the foreground is the entrance ramp to the Big Four Bridge. That bridge was completed in 1895 for the Big Four Railroad Company. In 1968 the bridge was no longer used for train traffic and was converted to a pedestrian and bicycle bridge.
There are two more bridges shown in this photograph. One of those bridges is the Abraham Lincoln Bridge. That is a Cable Stayed design with six lanes carrying northbound traffic for Interstate 65. The other bridge is the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge, which is a Cantilever bridge which is also six lanes and carries southbound traffic for Interstate 65. Both of those bridges require paying a toll to cross the Ohio River.
All three of these bridges carry traffic from Louisville, Kentucky to Jeffersonville, Indiana.
