Description
TVA Water Tower by Kathy K. McClellan is an image created for Day Twenty Three of the Journal 2022 Challenge, a 365 day Personal Art Challenge.
As I was going through photographs of this area in Muscle Shoals, Alabama around the Tennessee River near Wilson Dam, I found this photograph. The Tennessee Valley Authority offices and power plants are in that area as well as this water tower.
The TVA supplies the electricity in our area and is the most reliable of all the other locations we have lived in the eastern United States. It is due to this authority that we have had consistent heating throughout the winter (for which I am extremely grateful, especially these last few weeks!).
Created in 1933 it is now the sixth largest power supplier and largest public utility in the country (federally owned). It's service area covers all of Tennessee, sections of Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky and small portions of Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia.
Although it is owned by the federal government, the TVA operates like a private for-profit company and receives no taxpayer funding.
Wilson Dam, near where this photograph was taken, was the first dam under the authority of the TVA.
