This photograph shows one of many water meter covers in the city of Charleston, South Carolina (USA).
The Ford Meter Box Company is proudly stamped on the metal cover. This family owned manufacturing company was started by Edwin Ford in 1898 when he produced the first underground water meter.
The weathered metal manhole cover is embedded into a concrete surface. The cover is circular with a rusted texture and shows signs of wear and ageing.
