The dam itself spans the river from Lauderdale County to Colbert County. The power plant in this photo is on the Colbert County bank of the river. With 21 generating units and a net dependable capacity of 663 megawatts it is the most productive hydroelectric dam owned and managed by the Tennessee Valley Authority, a corporate agency of the Federal government.
