Description
Write by Kathy K. McClellan is an image created for Day 89 of the Journal 2022 Challenge.
My journal entries for March make up a series titled "From Letters to Words" using the letters that were created for the February entries.
I chose the word Write for today's image because March 30th is National Pencil Day. On this day in 1858 Hymen Lipman patented the modern pencil. His wooden, graphite pencil with attached eraser sold for $100,000!
A few fun facts:
(1) The first mass production pencil factory in America was built in New York in 1861.
(2) You can draw a line up to 45 miles long with one pencil.
(3) Fourteen Billion pencils are produced in a year.
(4) Pencils can write underwater and in zero gravity.
Pencils are planet friendly, with attached erasers they symbolize second chances and they are the first writing tool used in schools helping us to learn or fine tune our motor skills. They can enable us to develop our creativity and allow us to write and draw non-permanently.
National Pencil Day is a day to celebrate this essential writing tool.
