Description
Y Is For Yin Yang And Yoga by Kathy K. McClellan is an image created for Day 56 of the Journal 2022 Challenge, a 365 day Personal Art Challenge. This is a square image with a black border.
My journal entries for February 2022 include upper case (capital) letters of the Modern English Alphabet as well as a description that relays information on the word chosen for that day's letter. These letters are created from used wine corks.
Y is the twenty fifth letter of the Modern English Alphabet and is being created and uploaded on the twenty fifth day of the month.
The concept of Yin/Yang originated in China thousands of years ago. Popular thought says that it is about opposites. However, when researching the history and meaning you will find that the concept and symbol are also complimentary. It is all about balance.
The symbol for Yin/Yang is a circle with an S shaped division between black and white (light and darkness) with a dot in each filled in with the other's color/shade.
Instead of a harsh, straight line separating the two sides, the curved S shape helps to illustrate the complimentary and compatibility of the two concepts. The dot of opposite color or shade in the middle of each side represents the concept that each side contains a little of the other side's elements.
The Yin (dark) side represents female, moon, spirit giving. The Yang (light) side represents male, sun, form giving.
Each side of the circle is equal in size and shape to the other representing balance.
There is much more to the Yin/Yang history, definition and cultural aspects than what I've summarized here.
Today I'm going to start my road to Yin/Yang balance in life by revisiting my neglected Yoga routine, starting with the (Balancing) Tree Pose.
