Description
This photograph was taken seven months after Hurricane Katrina destroyed the entire area on August 29, 2005. The storm left a thick layer of very mucky mud on the roads. It didn't rain enough after Katrina to wash all the mud off the pavement. What was left dried up and became a thick black dust when vehicles drove on it. The faster the speed of the vehicle the more dust that was "kicked up", settling on everything in sight.
This sign was seen on a city street in Bay Saint Louis, MS where people were living temporary on their empty lot.
Signs made of found objects from debris piles held many different instructions, warnings and information and were plentiful in the years shortly after Katrina.
Bay Saint Louis, MS is in Hancock County which was ground zero for Hurricane Katrina.
