Description
Star Peony is an abstract image produced from a photograph of a Peony flower and leaves that was blooming in a flower garden in Ohio.
There are between 25-40 different species of this flowering plant. Some species are classified as trees and some as shrubs, depending on how much of the plant dies back to the ground in winter.
The plant and flower have a long history in the East. Over 262 compounds have been obtained from the plant making it very useful in traditional Eastern medicine.
Famous painters of peonies have included Conrad Gessner (ca. 1550) and Auguste Renoir in 1879.

Thanks DUG! I loved my mother's peonies but have not been able to grow them most of the places we've lived. She had a row of these along her drive and they were stunning!

Kathy K McClellan replied:
Thanks Denise! The peony was growing in my mother's garden in Ohio. She was quite a gardener.
