The Wash House is located along a US Highway in Eastern Ohio. At least three sides of this small building are covered in late Nineteenth and early Twentieth Century laundry utensils. More utensils and clothing are hung on the side of the building that is out of sight. A long wooden shelf sits between this building and the highway and is filled with assorted sized wash tubs.
Laundry was an all day chore in the late 1800s and early 1900s in America. It required physical strength and endurance. It was often done in a separate room (scullery) or building, depending on the location and value of the property.
The Wash House sits on the side of the highway between a country house and big building that looks like it was originally a barn and is now a garage or large equipment storage shed.
