Grandmother's Aluminum Tray by Kathy K. McClellan is an enhanced photograph created for Day Three of the Three Day Anything Goes Challenge.

Hammered and Wrought Aluminum was popular from 1920-1960, most notably the '40s and '50s. Serving and entertaining pieces included drinking glasses, trays, bowls, vases, ashtrays and more. They were produced for and most often purchased by blue and white collar workers.

The serving trays were especially valued by the women who enjoyed entertaining but could not afford expensive silver serving items. Often these aluminum creations were given as bridal and wedding gifts.

Because they were hand crafted, Hammered and Hand Wrought, aluminum pieces were modern and chic to own. They were also nearly indestructible. Acidic foods and later modern dishwashers were the biggest downfall to these pieces.
