Ship Island Public Beach is a photograph that was taken a couple of months before Hurricane Katrina wrecked havoc on the island, destroying the lighthouse and all the National Park Service Buildings. It caused minor flooding damage to Fort Massachusetts.
Ship Island is twelve miles off the coast of Mississippi and is part of The Gulf Islands National Seashore. It is only accessible by private boat and commercial passenger ferry and is a popular summer, fun day outing.
This view of the island is on the south side of the island facing The Gulf Of Mexico.
