Artist's Description
Weeping Willow is a minimal ink drawing by Kathy K. McClellan for Day Five of the Seven Day Black and White Challenge.
The Salix babylonica, known as the Weeping Willow tree, is a graceful, deciduous tree with pendulous branches. It originated in China but is now grown in Europe and North America as well.
The Weeping Willow is a medium to large size tree that grows rapidly but has a relatively short life span. It loves moist soil and it's extensive root system can be a problem with pavement, water lines and sewer systems.
This willow is mostly grown for ornamental reasons but also for wood production and shelterbelts, particularly in the Gobi desert.

Weeping willows have a very distinctive shape, you got it just right, with a suggestion of other branches in the same flow. Can't imagine how long it took to get to that "just right" spot.
Kathy K McClellan replied:
Thank you James!

Another great rendering! When I look at this I am reminded on a willow we had years ago that was shaped like your image.
Kathy K McClellan replied:
Thanks Gaby! I'm glad it provided the memory (smile).
