When you read the title for this image you might think that it is a photograph of a person on a night time plane ride, even though that flight schedule is commonly referred to as a Red Eye.
However, a red eye is also a name for as electric stove coil that gets hot enough for the coiled metal eye to glow a bright red.
The image shown is actually a photograph of a pot of boiling water with steam rising upward.
The pot sits on a coil type stove eye that has been heated to it's highest temperature resulting in a red glow and producing the red eye.
