Description
An Outdoor Kitchen by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Day Two of the Five Day Art Challenge (Theme: Kitchen).
This outdoor kitchen was built underneath an elevated house along the Mississippi Gulf Coast (USA).
The kitchen faces east and is filled with the morning sun but is shaded by the house above as the sun approaches the hot noonday hour.
The layout is a galley style with the cooking appliances and sink all in one long row. There is a refrigerator opposite this layout and out of view.
Notice that there is a stainless steel table on one side of the gas smoker and a countertop on the side of the gas grill making it convenient to set down a pan of food next to either appliance.
A gas fryer, used when hosting a fish fry, sits out of the way under the stainless steel table when not in use.
Large utensils are hung on the side of the counter framework where they can be retrieved when needed. Large pots and pans hang on hooks under the counter on the far side of the sink.
Without the usual closed in cabinetry, fresh air circulates under, over and around this layout keeping the kitchen area free of smoke and cooking odors and preventing mold and mildew buildup.
Two oil torches positioned in the yard opposite the sink area are lit up at night to keep insects away from the countertop which serves as an after dinner bar.
