Description
October Sculptured Sycamore by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Week 9 of the 52 Week Art Challenge (Theme: The World Outside). This is a square format image.
The American Sycamore tree in this image is at the bottom of a hill in view of the apartment that we are renting in Alabama. Every season brings a new look to this tree.
The photograph you see was taken on an early morning in October after the leaves of this Sycamore had turned from green to yellow and reddish orange. Some of the leaves have already fallen from the tree as a result of autumn winds which allows the sculptural shape of the tree to be more pronounced. The dried grasses showing along the bottom of the image compliment the various fall colors of the Sycamore and surrounding trees and ground the photograph visually.
Notice how the branches spread out from the split trunks as they rise up toward the sky.
Gracefully spreading branches along with bark that peels off as the tree matures leaving whitish gray branches and trunk are a distinct feature of the American Sycamore.
