Description
Ruth's Roots Corner Benches by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Day 344 of the 365 Challenge (Journal 2022).
As you step inside Ruth's Roots Community Garden in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi (USA), you can choose a book from one of two Lending Libraries. You can then walk over to the corner and you will find two benches, ready to provide you with a shady spot to enjoy your new novel.
Sitting in this corner not only enables you to read in the cool shade, protected for the hot southern sun, but also gives you a wide angle view of all but the very rear of the garden's location. Sit and rest while enjoying the peaceful scene if you wish.
Behind the benches, colorful fence boards were painted by city residents who volunteered their time and effort to decorate the plain, unpainted boards.
The garden was named after the late Ruth Thompson and is located at the former location of Ruth's Cakery. The land was donated by Jim Thompson.
There is a chicken coop, butterfly house, rabbit enclosure, koi pond, stone chess board, blessing box and adult and children's lending libraries plus several other attractions, all of which are out of view in this image.
Garden vegetables and herbs are planted in raised beds. Eggs are donated to a local non-profit cafe.
The garden is open 24/7 and has been visited by people from all over the United States as well as several different countries.
