Description
The Renaissance Faire Crusader by Kathy K. McClellan is a Black and White photographic image created for Week 13 of the 52 week Art Challenge (Theme: The World Outside).
During a visit to Alabama's Official Renaissance Faire in Florence, AL (USA) I spotted this young man. He was wearing a Crusader's helmet and a sleeveless black shirt over his black t-shirt.
Although this image is in black and white the helmet is acutally adorned with a gold cross fleury, that is a cross with fleurs-de-lys at the ends of each arm. Fleur-de-lys means lily flower.
The white cross on the shirt overlay is a cross pattee, also called cross patty, cross paty or a cross formy. These different types of crosses are known by their unique shapes.
When the Crusader saw me taking pictures he stopped and posed. If you look closely at the eye openings in the helmet you will see that he is looking directly at the camera.
There were many costumed folks at the festival and almost all of them wanted to be noticed and photographed. However, this was the only person I saw walking around wearing a full face helmet. I'm sure it was hot and possibly uncomfortable.

Very nice capture! Works well in black and white, and I do see his eyes!

Thanks Gaby. Bright colors in the background took away from the subject, hence the B/W.
