Description
First Baptist Columns In Eufaula by Kathy K. McClellan is a photographic image created for Day 270 of the 365 Challenge (Journal 2022). This image is a vertical format.
This image shows a side view of the front porch of the First Baptist Church in Eufaula, Alabama (USA).
The congregation was established in 1837. Several buildings were used or built for worship. The building dedicated on November 5, 1871 was destroyed by a lightning fire in 1907.
The present building used the same exterior walls without the tall steeple. The columned portico and stairs were added to the new church.
There are seven columns, five across the front and two against the front wall. They are Greek Ionic style columns.
Concrete balustrades provide railings on the sides of the portico while metal handrails provide safety for the front stairs.
Above the trim work over the columns but below the roof line a bracketed cornice is shown.
